Kristin A. Norse Profile
Kristin Norse has been recognized for her appellate practice by FLORIDA SUPER LAWYERS, based on peer recognition and professional achievement. FLORIDA TREND has named her one of the top 2% of attorneys in the state by listing her in FLORIDA LEGAL ELITE for appellate practice.
Ms. Norse was born in Newport News, Virginia, and spent most of her childhood in Burlington, Vermont. She relocated to Florida during high school and graduated from Brandon High School. Ms. Norse attended Boston University College of Arts and Sciences and Boston University School of Law from 1986 to 1992 as part of a unique six-year dual degree program. She received her bachelor's degree in English, cum laude, and her juris doctorate degree in 1992. During law school, she was a co-director of the Esdaile Moot Court program.
After law school, Ms. Norse joined the firm of Hampton, Stoddard, Griffin & Runnells, P.A., where she handled a general civil practice with a strong emphasis in family law and appellate practice. In 1997, Ms. Norse joined the firm of Harris, Barrett, Mann & Dew, P.A., where she expanded her practice to include probate and guardianship litigation and other civil litigation.
After seven years in private practice, Ms. Norse became a senior staff attorney for the Honorable Chris W. Altenbernd at the Second District Court of Appeal in Tampa, Florida, and remained in that position for ten years before joining Kynes, Markman & Felman, P.A.
Ms. Norse is a member of the Appellate Court Rules Committee (2011-2014) and is on the Executive Council of the Appellate Practice Section of the Florida Bar and is the Editor of the Bar Journal Submissions for the Section. She is a director for the Hillsborough County Bar Association, Board of Directors and a prior editor of "The Lawyer," a monthly magazine by the Hillsborough County Bar Association. She is a past president of the Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers (2008-2009). She is a member of the Executive Board for the Florida Association for Women Lawyers. In the community, she is a member of the Board of Directors for the nonprofit organization Powerstories Theatre.
Ms. Norse has assisted in civil appeals including White v. Advanced Neuromodulation Systems, Inc., Wendy Bolin, R.N., and Pain Management Systems, Inc., 51 So. 3d 613 (Fla. 2d DCA 2011); State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company v. Brainard, 2010 WL 3463653 (Fla. 2d DCA Sept. 3, 2010); Winters v. Mulholland, 35 Fla. L. Weekly D267 (Fla. 2d DCA Jan. 29, 2010); and Whitehead v. Smith, 23 So. 3d 1281 (Fla. 2d DCA 2010).
Ms. Norse is the author of Preserving Error: How High is the Bar?, J. Appellate Section, The Record, Vol. XVII, No. 2, Spring 2010, pp. 10-11, and Motion Practice in the District Courts of Appeal, The Florida Bar Journal, Vol. 81, No. 4, p. 38 (April 2007). She is a co-author of Time is On My Side: Four Steps to Applying the Correct Law, with Brandon Christian, The Florida Bar Journal, Vol. 83, No. 7, p. 44 (Aug. 2009), and Bridge the Gap Alimony Awards, with Wesley Pardue, The Family Law Section Commentator, Vol. XXVI, No. 1, p. 27 (Sept. 1999). She was an Assistant Editor for The Florida Bar Pro Se Appellate Handbook, and the author of the chapter entitled, "Preparing the Record in a Worker's Compensation Appeal." She has presented continuing legal education courses on attorneys' fees in family law appeals, appellate practice for the general practitioner, preserving errors for appeal (and specifically in the probate and guardianship arena), the art of legal research, and motion practice in the appellate courts. In February 2011, Ms. Norse co-presented "Preserving Error in Employment Cases" at the 2011 Florida National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) Winter Conference. Ms. Norse co-authored Chapter 10, entitled "Overview of Extraordinary Writs," in Florida Appellate Practice (publication pending for 2012).
